Abstract

The protocol utilizes the idea of scheduling the transmission of multimedia packets according to their Bit Error Rate (BER) requirements. The scheduler assigns priorities to the packets and performs iterative procedure to determine a good accommodation of the highest priority packets in the slots of a frame so that packets with equal or similar BER requirements are transmitted in same slots. The WCDMA Wireless Multimedia Network is designed for multi users and the proposed protocol is realized and also compared with Round Robin algorithm at the base station of the network where packet scheduling takes place. The different traffic classes like image, voice and data are transmitted in a packetized format and the performance of proposed protocol is to be evaluated by comparing the packet loss ratio, throughput with Round Robin algorithm. The Wireless Multimedia Network of WCDMA system, the bit error rate MAC protocol, and the Round Robin algorithm are implemented using MATLAB.
